Trelleborg Introduces New Rehab Technologies

Aging water infrastructure results in frequent pipe breaks and leaks, leading to significant water loss. It is estimated that 30% of global water supply is lost through such leaks, equating to one in every three glasses of water seeping into the ground. This inefficiency highlights the urgent need for effective repair solutions to prevent further waste and ensure the sustainability of water resources.

Traditionally, pipe and sewer repairs required extensive construction work, including the dismantling of roads and other structures. Trenchless pipe rehabilitation offers a less invasive alternative by inserting hoses into existing pipes and curing them in place to form a new, continuous surface within the old pipe. Innovative Sewer Technologies (I.S.T.), based in Bochum, Germany, has been a leader in this technique since 1998. The company was acquired by Trelleborg in December 2022, expanding Trelleborg’s capabilities in trenchless repair methods.

“We not only offer the consumables needed for sewer rehabilitation but also the equipment and machines required to perform the repair operation. There are competitors in the fields of milling or robotics or consumables, but there is no other company that can cover all three areas.” said Jörg Vogt, the founder of I.S.T and now Product Group Manager, responsible for the site in Bochum.
