BASF and KASK Collaborate on Helmets with Neopor® Ccycled®

KASK, the Italian helmet brand, has adopted BASF's Neopor® Ccycled®, an expandable polystyrene (EPS) made using recycled plastic waste, to produce internal shells for its safety helmets. Through the integration of pyrolysis oil derived from post-consumer plastic waste, BASF’s Neopor® Ccycled® replaces traditional fossil feedstocks in its manufacturing process, reducing its Product Carbon Footprint by approximately 90% compared to conventional Neopor®. This sustainable material is used in KASK’s Primero, Zenith X and Superplasma helmet series, delivering the same high-impact energy absorption capabilities and overall performance as standard EPS.

BASF says that the adoption of Neopor® Ccycled® reinforces their commitment to advancing circular economy practices by providing a certified mass-balance solution that conserves fossil resources. KASK began incorporating this innovative material in 2023, extending its use across key helmet models in response to growing demand for lower-impact safety equipment in workplace environments. KASK reports that the helmets continue to meet all European and international safety standards while supporting sustainability goals.

“It is of utmost importance for us to contribute with our products to reducing fossil resources consumption and to enabling the shift to a circular economy, while not compromising on quality or safety. We are proud that Neopor® Ccycled® has been selected for KASK’s high-quality safety helmets and will help support worker safety daily.” said Alessandro Gandini, BASF’s Commercial Manager for Styrenic Foams in the Mediterranean Area.
