Skanska has signed a EUR 35 million contract with Nokian Vesi Oy to construct a new wastewater treatment plant in Nokia, Finland. The project will be included in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2024 and is valued at approximately SEK 400 million. Construction will involve building four new structures, including a process plant, monitoring building, garage and repair facility, and an equalization pumping station, with a total size of around 12,000 square meters.
Designed to meet the needs of Nokia’s growing population, the facility will incorporate mechanical, biological, and chemical purification methods. Skanska states that the advanced technology will allow for significantly improved removal of nitrogen and other pollutants compared to current systems.
The project includes construction, machinery installation, HVAC, and building automation. Skanska says the facility’s enhanced capacity aligns with modern environmental standards while addressing the city’s long-term infrastructure requirements.
