The Bedrichov Drinking Water Treatment Plant in the Czech Republic has replaced traditional sand filters with Filtralite® Pure Mono-Multi media, which the company says has halved the required backwashing frequency, resulting in a 75% reduction in energy use. The change has also reportedly doubled the filtration capacity of each unit, allowing the plant to deliver what it describes as its highest quality drinking water to date.
Filtralite® is made from expanded clay and has a porous internal structure, which enables more efficient particle removal with less clogging compared to sand. At Bedrichov, the filtration system now uses two types of Filtralite® particles in combination, designed to improve flow and reduce operational costs.
“We have clearly seen the many advantages of Filtralite® compared to sand as filter medium, and we will go Filtralite® 100 %.” said Ladislav Rainis, Regional Manager of The North Bohemian Water Company.
