Haver & Boecker Launches Seawater-Resistant Avesta 254 SMO Filters

Haver & Boecker has introduced series-ready mesh laminates made from Avesta 254 SMO, designed for demanding seawater applications such as desalination. The filter elements combine multiple metallurgically bonded mesh layers, enhancing mechanical stability and reducing the need for additional support components. Sintered POROSTAR® laminates retain particles on the surface while providing high dirt-holding capacity, promoting uniform flow and longer service life.

The use of Avesta 254 SMO, a high-alloy stainless steel with a PREN value of 43, ensures strong corrosion resistance in saline environments. Optimized filtration, lower maintenance requirements, and improved operational safety are among the benefits plant operators can expect. Haver & Boecker has developed a proprietary sintering process that overcomes previous challenges in producing series-ready Avesta mesh laminates.

“So far, efficient sintering of Avesta 254 SMO was not available on the market due to potential delamination. Our solution closes this gap – we are currently the only provider on the market.” said Tim Gerdes, Business Development at Haver & Boecker.
