Torishima Advances Flood Control Equipment

Torishima has secured a contract to renew the main pump equipment at the Ishikawa Drainage Pumping Station in Fujioka-machi, Tochigi City, Japan. The station supports a low-lying agricultural area that is vulnerable to flooding, especially during heavy rainfall events. The existing pumps, which have been in operation for more than 40 years, are being replaced to improve drainage capacity and reduce flood damage risks to farmland.

The project involves dismantling two 500 mm double-suction volute pumps and installing two larger 600 mm mixed-flow pumps, increasing the flow capacity from 0.97 to 1.3 cubic meters per second. The upgrade is intended to enhance flood control and support the region’s agricultural stability. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2026, with the overall project finishing in 2027.
