South West Water, a major UK utility, has highlighted the contributions of three senior female professionals leading wastewater improvements in the South West of England. Engineer Hazel Tranchant, Operations Manager Jenny Eamer, and Environmental Performance Expert Helen Dobby have driven projects aimed at reducing storm overflow spills, enhancing infrastructure reliability, and expanding year-round water quality monitoring. These efforts are part of wider investments in sewer networks, pumping stations, and treatment works, including major upgrades at Exmouth.
The teams combine engineering interventions with data-driven analysis and advanced technologies such as 3D imaging and drone surveys to improve operational efficiency and environmental outcomes. Transparency has also increased through the publication of expanded winter water-quality sampling results, supporting greater public understanding beyond the bathing season.
“We’ve seen a significant reduction in pollutions and storm overflows. It’s about showing our customers and communities that we care, and that we’re doing everything we can to protect the environment,” said Operations Manager Jenny Eamer.
