Sulzer is involved in the New Delta Treatment Plant in Egypt, which is recognized as the largest water treatment facility globally. The plant, with a daily capacity of up to 7.5 million cubic meters, processes agricultural drainage water and wastewater for reuse. The treated water is intended to irrigate 1.2 million acres of farmland and Sulzer’s technologies are part of the plant’s infrastructure, aimed at enhancing water management and supporting agricultural sustainability in the region.
Sulzer collaborated with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies to optimize energy use at the New Delta Treatment Plant. The switch to Sulzer’s SCABA agitators in the preliminary mixer solution resulted in an estimated energy savings of 10GWh. Additionally, the SNS and XFP pumps were customized to enhance efficiency and extend service life. These modifications support the plant's goals of improving sustainability and resource management. Sulzer's involvement was formally acknowledged at the plant’s opening ceremony on June 15, 2024.
“We are pleased to support customers in their sustainability journeys by enabling water circularity and food security through improved efficiencies and agricultural productivity. This project demonstrates how our 60-plus years in wastewater management is promoting prosperous growth and sustainable living.” said Jan Lueder Flow Division President.
