Cummins and Americares Boost WASH Services in Colombia

Cummins Water Works has announced a new partnership with Americares to enhance water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in five schools in Barranquilla, Colombia. This initiative aims to provide access to clean water and safe sanitation, benefiting over 10,300 students, teachers, and community members. By reducing the incidence of water-related diseases, the project will contribute to a healthier population and support educational advancements, particularly for women and girls.

The program includes the renovation of school facilities to ensure they are hygienic, safe, and accessible for all. In addition to infrastructure improvements, the initiative will promote better WASH practices within the community, including the formation of hygiene clubs and WASH committees at each school. The project also emphasizes environmental sustainability, with a focus on mangrove reforestation to combat shoreline erosion and foster a healthier ecosystem.

This collaboration supports Cummins' PLANET 2050 goal of achieving net water positivity in each region by 2030. Through partnerships with community organizations like Americares, Cummins Water Works aims to strengthen communities by improving water quality, increasing water availability, and enhancing access to essential WASH services worldwide.
