Cummins Inc. continues to address the global sanitation crisis through its Cummins Water Works program, which focuses on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). In partnership with nonprofits such as Water.org, Americares and WaterAid, the company supports projects aimed at improving access to clean water and sanitation in regions including India, Nigeria, Colombia and the Philippines. Since 2021, these efforts have impacted more than 1.4 million lives through initiatives like building restroom facilities, providing affordable infrastructure financing and promoting hygiene practices in schools and communities.
The company recently expanded its efforts into Kitwe, Zambia, by partnering with Save the Children. This collaboration will repair water systems at six schools, establish maintenance plans and create WASH committees to promote sustainable hygiene practices. The initiative is expected to benefit 11,000 children, 60 WASH committee members and 24 teachers, enhancing daily life for local communities.
“We are excited to expand the Cummins Water Works program into Zambia. Our employee teams there are eager to help implement WASH practices in the local schools and contribute their time and skills to improving daily life for those in their community,” said Jim Schacht, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at Cummins.
