Aqualia has emphasized the importance of maintaining and modernizing water supply and sanitation systems to ensure reliable service and environmental sustainability. The company points to aging infrastructure as a key challenge, with much of Spain’s water network in operation for over 40 years. Leaks and inefficiencies in the system contribute to water loss, which Aqualia addresses through digital monitoring, remote detection systems, and operational improvements.
The company says that it is investing in digitalization as part of its 2024-2026 Strategic Sustainability Plan, with technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and mobility applications playing a role in optimizing network efficiency. According to Aqualia, 71 of its services in Spain now use advanced data systems, double the number in 2022.
"People only think about water when it is lacking, but the best indicator that we are doing our job well is that no one talks about us," say Aqualia representatives. The company highlights the role of water professionals who work continuously to ensure supply reliability and reduce losses, highlighting that addressing infrastructure investment gaps remains critical.
