Aquatech has been named technology partner for what will become Texas’ first major seawater desalination plant, to be constructed at Corpus Christi’s Inner Harbor. Once operational, the facility is expected to deliver up to 113 million litres of potable water per day, making it the third largest seawater desalination plant in the Americas. It is being positioned by the City of Corpus Christi as a key element in strengthening long-term water security for the Coastal Bend region.
The company will provide its reverse osmosis technology, which it says will enable the plant to achieve high water quality with minimal energy use and reduced chemical dependency. Aquatech highlights the project’s focus on energy efficiency and mitigation of biofouling as critical to its operational design. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026 with completion targeted for 2028. Prime contractor duties will be handled by Kiewit, while GHD is providing process design services.
“As an American company with deep roots in desalination, delivering our technology for Texas’ first large-scale SWRO plant – and one of the largest in North America – is a real source of pride for Aquatech. This project’s unmatched energy efficiency, along with its innovative approach to mitigating biofouling and minimizing chemical use, will provide the Coastal Bend region with an affordable, drought-resilient water source of the highest quality.” said Ravi Chidambaran, CTO & President at Aquatech.
