Toray Wins 2024 WIPO Award for RO Membrane

Toray Industries, Inc. was awarded the 2024 National Commendation for Invention Award’s WIPO Award by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation. The award was given for the development of a reverse osmosis (RO) membrane. The team of inventors—Kiyohiko Takaya, Masahiro Kimura, Takao Sasaki, Koji Nakatsuji, and Harutoki Shimura—created a membrane that enhances water permeability, removal efficiency, and chemical resistance.

The RO membrane was designed to address the degradation issues associated with chemical cleaning using acids and alkalis. By improving structural stability and precisely controlling pore sizes, Toray successfully developed a membrane that maintains durability and performance under challenging conditions.
