Water Reuse Specialist Joins CDM Smith

CDM Smith has hired Karthik Kumarasamy, PhD, PE, as an environmental engineer. With 14 years of experience in drinking water, wastewater, water reuse, regulatory compliance, permitting, and modeling, he will contribute technical expertise to the firm's water sector projects. Previously a principal engineer at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, he played a key role in shaping the state’s regulatory framework for direct potable reuse.

During his tenure in Arizona, Dr. Kumarasamy led the development of the Advanced Water Purification regulatory program, working with utilities, academic institutions, and consulting firms to establish standards and guidance. He also secured funding for research on wastewater characterization and helped design an advanced water treatment operator certification program. In addition to his regulatory work, he serves as an adjunct faculty member at Arizona State University and has published research on water treatment and compliance.

“We are thrilled to welcome Karthik to our team, bringing his unique experience in implementing potable reuse regulations,” said senior vice president Jennifer Osgood. “His extensive knowledge will be instrumental as we assist other states in drafting reuse policy and guide our clients through compliance. Together, we are committed to advancing sustainable water solutions and ensuring safe, reliable water for all.”
