Construction has begun on a pioneering large-scale plant for the production of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates) from process water. In a collaboration between EnviroChemie, Paques Biomaterials, and ESKA. The project is set to integrate the PHA production process into a new closed-loop water recycling and treatment plant. The innovative plant, named ‘Gecko,’ will purify wastewater and convert organic material into biomaterials rather than biogas, offering a unique technical solution with potential for future commercial applications.
The engineering phase of the project is underway, with a planned completion in the third quarter of 2025, enabling investment decisions to be made before the year’s end. EnviroChemie say that their role in the integration of this cutting-edge technology underscores their commitment to advancing sustainable industrial solutions, marking a pivotal development in water treatment and the circular economy.
