The Town of Carleton Place, Ontario, has commenced construction on major upgrades to its water and wastewater treatment plants, aimed at accommodating projected population growth and supporting new residential development. Stantec, a global design and engineering firm, will provide construction services while overseeing project execution, contract administration, and engineering guidance. The wastewater treatment plant’s capacity will increase significantly, shifting to a membrane bioreactor system, while the water treatment plant will also expand to improve operator access and optimise space within its urban setting.
This project marks the largest infrastructure investment in Carleton Place’s history, valued at approximately C$133 million, with work expected to continue through early 2029. Stantec’s role builds on years of collaboration with the Town, including delivering the initial master plan and detailed designs. The company’s experience in managing complex infrastructure projects is seen as a key factor in supporting Carleton Place’s sustainable growth while maintaining public health and environmental protection.
“We’re honoured to support Carleton Place in this vital initiative,” said Pascal Pitre, project manager and managing leader for Stantec’s water group in Ottawa. “As a full-service firm, we bring the momentum and experience needed to manage complex infrastructure projects, helping communities like Carleton Place grow sustainably while protecting public health and the environment.”
