Solvay Announces Investments to Reduce Emissions and Water Usage at Paulinia Site

Solvay has announced two major projects at its Paulínia site in Brazil, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water usage. The initiatives include the installation of biomass-fired boilers, primarily fueled by sugarcane bagasse, to cut the site’s annual emissions by 40% by 2027 compared to 2021 levels. Additionally, a closed-loop cooling system will be implemented to decrease water input by 10% annually by 2025, equivalent to saving 4.2 million cubic meters of water each year.

The Paulínia facility, one of Solvay’s largest global production centers, has long focused on sustainability and innovation in green chemical technologies. Spanning 16 million square meters, only 15% of the site is used for industrial activities, with the rest dedicated to conserving the native Atlantic Forest biome. The site has earned Gold certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council for its biodiversity and reforestation efforts, which support over 270 species, including endangered animals like the maned wolf and giant anteater.

Solvay states that these projects reflect its commitment to addressing climate and water challenges while advancing renewable energy and biodiversity conservation.
