Solvay, operating as Rhodia in Brazil, has reached a 94% water reuse rate at its Santo André industrial plant through a partnership with Veolia. The achievement, which saves the equivalent of 133 Olympic swimming pools of fresh water annually, strengthens operations in the drought-prone São Paulo region. Veolia integrated its ZeeWeed™ MBR membrane technology into the existing wastewater facility, transforming it into a closed-loop system that converts effluent into high-quality water for reuse in production processes.
This project forms part of a 10-year service agreement, reflecting years of strategic investment and process improvement. The Santo André site, a nearly century-old hub for textile innovation, now operates with near-total water independence, marking a significant move toward circular water use in industry.
“This project reflects Veolia’s ability to integrate high-performance engineering with a robust, results-oriented operational model. It exemplifies our GreenUp strategic program, where water technologies are a booster and serve as a catalyst for ecological transformation. We are proud to accompany how we work with our clients such as Rhodia to transform their environmental goals into concrete, scalable solutions.” said Mauro Cruz, Executive Vice President and Head of Veolia’s Water Technologies Activities in Latin America.
