Solvay and IUCN Announce Biodiversity Collaboration

Solvay has partnered with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in a three-year initiative aimed at strengthening its biodiversity commitments. The collaboration aligns with the Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF) and focuses on conservation efforts near Solvay’s manufacturing sites in biodiversity-sensitive areas. As part of this, the company plans to allocate 30% of permeable land in these locations for conservation and restoration by 2030.

IUCN will provide science-based recommendations, assessment tools, and guidance to support Solvay’s biodiversity strategy. Reviews will consider site-specific measures such as ecological inventories, habitat restoration, and partnerships with environmental organizations. The collaboration also incorporates tools like the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) and the Species Threat Abatement and Restoration (STAR) metric to help evaluate conservation opportunities.
