Solvay Cuts Raw Material Footprint at Linne Herten Plant

Solvay has partnered with BASF to reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions linked to the production of hydrogen peroxide at its Linne Herten plant in the Netherlands. The company has named BASF as its primary supplier of aluminum chloride—used in the manufacture of anthraquinone—citing the significantly lower carbon footprint of BASF’s product compared to previous sourcing from India. Solvay says this change is expected to cut the carbon footprint of the raw material by more than 50%.

The shift is part of Solvay’s broader aim to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 20% by 2030 and supports ongoing efforts to make chemical production more sustainable. Both companies are part of the “Together for Sustainability” initiative, which promotes responsible sourcing practices across the chemical industry.

“This collaboration with BASF is a tangible step forward in achieving our sustainability objectives. By prioritizing partners with more environmentally sound practices, we are making our supply chain more efficient and reducing our emissions.” said Carlos Silveira, President of Solvay Peroxides.
