The Sfax desalination plant is now supplying drinking water to over 600,000 residents in Tunisia’s second-largest city. Developed by Tedagua with its partners, the facility has an initial capacity of 100,000 m³ per day, with infrastructure in place for future expansion. Commissioned by SONEDE, the project aims to address water scarcity and ensure long-term supply.
The plant uses reverse osmosis technology, supported by a two-stage filtration system, energy recovery, and post-treatment for remineralization. Water is drawn through submarine intake pipes, treated, and stored before distribution. Construction created local jobs, and ongoing operations will continue to support regional development.
Construction was completed in October 2024, beginning a two-year operation and maintenance phase before transfer to SONEDE. Tedagua says this project reinforces its role in water infrastructure development.
