ACCIONA has announced it will carry out a major renovation of the Coppermills Water Treatment Plant, which supplies a third of the drinking water to Greater London. The company has been contracted to design, construct and commission new infrastructure, including a pumping station and an upgraded filtration and treatment system. The improvements are intended to increase the plant’s reliability and ensure continued water quality as demand grows.
The £400 million (€465 million) investment will also include upgrades to the electrical supply systems. Located in the Lea Valley, the Coppermills facility serves both the City of London and surrounding boroughs. ACCIONA will deliver the project in collaboration with lead designer Jacobs, before transferring the completed plant to Thames Water.
ACCIONA has been active in the UK since 2003, with other recent infrastructure projects including the Edmonton EcoPark waste-to-energy plant and the NESS Energy Project in Aberdeen.
