ACCIONA has been awarded two contracts for advanced water treatment in Portugal. The projects, valued at €6 million, involve the Vilamoura wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the Algarve and the Carvalhal WWTP in Mafra, Lisbon District. The Vilamoura project, a partnership with Tecnorém under Águas do Algarve, will use ultrafiltration technology to produce reclaimed water for golf course irrigation, with a capacity of 1,000 m³/h. Meanwhile, the Carvalhal WWTP, commissioned by Águas do Tejo Atlântico, will apply activated sludge technology to treat 356 m³/h, marking the first wastewater treatment for the town and reducing pollution in the Lizandro River and nearby Foz do Lizandro beach.
These contracts add to ACCIONA’s extensive portfolio in Portugal, where the company has constructed over 30 wastewater and drinking water treatment plants. Highlighted projects include the Alcantarilha water purification plant, serving the Algarve region, and several WWTPs across the country, such as the Faro-Olhão and Companheira facilities. Combined, the new plants will enhance environmental sustainability and provide essential infrastructure to meet local needs.
ACCIONA states that these initiatives align with its expertise in delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions, reinforcing its long-standing presence in Portugal. The company emphasizes its commitment to supporting communities through innovative water management technologies.
