Spanish water technology firm Hidroconta is supporting a digital transformation project in northern Morocco’s Loukkos basin through its local subsidiary, Hidroconta Maroc. The initiative, led by the Office Régional de Mise en Valeur Agricole de Loukkos (ORMVAL), focuses on modernising irrigation systems in the Alcazarquivir region, with a goal of improving water efficiency and reducing manual intervention in agricultural operations.
As part of the project, 48 Deméter 4H terminals have been installed, enabling remote management of nearly 500 irrigation points. The system, which uses GPRS connectivity and multi-operator SIM cards, integrates existing meters, pressure sensors, and intrusion detectors. Farmers can now control and monitor irrigation through the Deméter platform, accessible via web or mobile app, with real-time alerts and historical tracking functions.
According to Hidroconta, this deployment is intended to simplify irrigation logistics for users while promoting sustainable water use. The company adds that further expansion is planned, alongside a long-term maintenance contract to support continued operation.
