Xylem and Amazon have partnered with municipal utilities in Mexico City and Monterrey to implement advanced water infrastructure upgrades designed to significantly reduce water losses and enhance supply reliability. The initiative will deploy Xylem Vue, a software platform that uses data analytics for leak detection, pressure management, and improved network efficiency. These projects are expected to recover more than 1.3 billion liters of water annually, with Mexico City saving around 800 million liters and Monterrey 560 million liters.
The upgrades aim to address pressing challenges in regions facing rapid urbanization and drought. In Mexico City, for instance, leakage rates can reach up to 40% before water reaches consumers. The new technology enables real-time pressure control and proactive leak detection to improve efficiency. The partnership forms part of Amazon’s broader water stewardship program, which includes over 30 projects globally.
“In a water-stressed region, where every liter counts, recovering more than a billion liters of water each year is a game-changer. Working with Amazon and the local water utilities, we are using data to give these cities actionable insights that enable them to make their community’s water supply more resilient and secure.” said Jaime Barba, General Manager, Xylem Vue.
