Volvo Penta Boosts Irrigation Performance

Riverlea Cotton, a large-scale irrigation and broadacre farming operation in Queensland’s Darling Downs, has adopted Volvo Penta engines to power its irrigation pumps. The engines were selected for their durability, fuel efficiency, and ability to operate reliably in continuous-use conditions. This tailored solution, developed in collaboration with Volvo Penta’s local dealer Oceania Power and supplier Warrego Water, delivered up to 10% fuel savings compared to the originally proposed engine and integrated seamlessly into the existing irrigation system.

Following successful initial performance, a second Volvo Penta-powered unit was installed two years later. Both engines now run continuously during irrigation seasons, supporting operational efficiency with dependable power and local support.

“Fuel savings and reliability matter when you’re running irrigation 24/7,” said Chris Arthur, fifth-generation farmer at Riverlea Cotton. “Volvo Penta delivered both, and the support from Oceania Power and Brackens is excellent.”
