ACCIONA, in partnership with local firm DHCU, has been awarded an eight-year contract to operate and maintain Phase II of the Gabal El Asfar wastewater treatment complex near Cairo. The contract, valued at €35 million, involves rehabilitation and upgrades on two treatment plants, each capable of processing 500,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily. Serving eight million residents, the complex is among the largest wastewater facilities worldwide, ranking third by treatment capacity.
The company brings extensive experience in Egypt’s water sector, having previously expanded and managed key components of Gabal El Asfar and other water infrastructure projects in the region. ACCIONA’s portfolio in the country includes several drinking water treatment plants and advanced wastewater facilities designed to support both urban populations and agricultural irrigation.
