ACCIONA has been awarded an €18 million contract for operational and engineering services targeting 1,165 kilometers of drinking water supply networks across Costa Rica. The project encompasses multiple locations including San José, the Greater Metropolitan Area of Guadalupe, and Atlantic coast districts of Guácimo and Limón. Contract specifications outline hydraulic modeling analysis and network sectorization, followed by system optimization improvements.
Implementation plans include large-scale meter installation, macro-meter incorporation, and pressure-reducing valve deployment alongside fraud detection control systems. These measures aim to reduce water leak occurrences while accelerating detection and repair processes. ACCIONA's Costa Rica operations date to 2012, with previous water sector involvement including construction of the Los Tajos wastewater treatment plant, serving over one million metropolitan San José residents.
The contract covers three distinct geographical areas, with infrastructure improvements designed to enhance network safety and operational efficiency. ACCIONA Energía maintains additional operations through the 49.5 MW Chiripa wind farm at Tilarán, generating power equivalent to approximately 80,000 household consumption levels since 2014.
